History of the Credit Union |

|
The Credit Union started in 1961. At that time usurers were lending money to employees of Jamaica Telephone Company Limited (J.T.C Limited) and charging them exorbitant rates of interest.
The idea behind the formation of the Credit Union was that JTC employees could save together and lend each other money at reasonable rates. On April 24, 1961, the J.T.C Employees Co-operative Credit Union was duly registered with the register of Co-operative societies. The Credit Union began with a membership base of 135, savings of $1,766.23 and the registered office located at 51 half way Tree Road, Kingston 10.
Over the last 47 years the Credit Union has grown considerably, with a membership base of approximately 17,000 and assets of approximately $2.8 billion. With approximately 75 members of staff, the Credit Union now operates from five locations island wide.
